ALBUM SYNOPSIS:

Now considered a bossa nova classic, 1989’s Rio After Dark was São Paulo singer/guitarist Ana Caram’s debut release for Chesky Records, a New York label renowned for its high-resolution audiophile recordings. Caram was mentored by the legendary bossa nova pioneer Antônio Carlos Jobim, who joined his protege on two of the album’s fifteen cuts, playing piano and singing background vocals on Caram’s versions of his classic songs ‘Meditation’ and ‘Anos Dourados (It Looks Like December).’ Another star cameo came from the Grammy-winning Cuban-American reed player Paquito D’Rivera, who plays saxophone and clarinet on the tracks ‘La Cumbia’ and ‘O Que Vier Eu Traço.’ Accompanied by pianist/composer/producer David Chesky, flutist Steve Sacks, bassist David Finck, and percussionists Carlos Alberto de Oliveira and Café, Caram’s sinuous vocals and syncopated fretwork showed she was an authentic new voice continuing the bossa nova tradition. The album will be reissued on SACD Hybrid Stereo in September 2025.

A landmark 2004 album by Marta Gómez that established her as one of Latin America’s most poetic voices. The recording unites Colombian folk traditions with Latin American rhythms, Spanish flamenco, and jazz harmony across fourteen tracks—twelve of them original—that travel from the valleys of Colombia to the coasts of Peru and beyond. Centered on voice and guitar, the arrangements feature subtle touches of bass, percussion, flute, and accordion, revealing Gómez’s gift for lyrical storytelling...

Released in 1999 by the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, The Feeling’s Back showed that flugelhorn maestro Chuck Mangione - renowned for his trademark fedora hat and warm melodic lyricism - was still a force to be reckoned with in the jazz world. The son of an Italian American greengrocer, Rochester-born Mangione played hardbop in a group with his piano-playing brother before going solo in the mid-1960s. In 1978, he joined a small list of chart-busting elite jazz instrumentalists when h...
