ALBUM SYNOPSIS:

Now considered a bossa nova classic, 1989’s Rio After Dark was São Paulo singer/guitarist Ana Caram’s debut release for Chesky Records, a New York label renowned for its high-resolution audiophile recordings. Caram was mentored by the legendary bossa nova pioneer Antônio Carlos Jobim, who joined his protege on two of the album’s fifteen cuts, playing piano and singing background vocals on Caram’s versions of his classic songs ‘Meditation’ and ‘Anos Dourados (It Looks Like December).’ Another star cameo came from the Grammy-winning Cuban-American reed player Paquito D’Rivera, who plays saxophone and clarinet on the tracks ‘La Cumbia’ and ‘O Que Vier Eu Traço.’ Accompanied by pianist/composer/producer David Chesky, flutist Steve Sacks, bassist David Finck, and percussionists Carlos Alberto de Oliveira and Café, Caram’s sinuous vocals and syncopated fretwork showed she was an authentic new voice continuing the bossa nova tradition. The album will be reissued on SACD Hybrid Stereo in September 2025.

Released in 1999 by the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, The Feeling’s Back showed that flugelhorn maestro Chuck Mangione - renowned for his trademark fedora hat and warm melodic lyricism - was still a force to be reckoned with in the jazz world. The son of an Italian American greengrocer, Rochester-born Mangione played hardbop in a group with his piano-playing brother before going solo in the mid-1960s. In 1978, he joined a small list of chart-busting elite jazz instrumentalists when h...

Recorded in 1991 for the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, New York Reunion is a thrilling meeting of jazz giants. McCoy Tyner, who rose to fame with the John Coltrane Quartet, is joined by nonpareil tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, the record-breaking double-bass maestro Ron Carter, and jazz drummer extraordinaire, Al Foster. The quartet reveals its extraordinary synergy through a remarkable blend of jazz standards and original compositions. Among the album’s many highlights is Henderso...

Recorded in 1990 for the noted New York audiophile label Chesky Records, My Blue Heaven was John Pizzarelli’s first significant album release, heralding the arrival of a major talent and future Grammy®-winning star. Released in 1989 by the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, Portraits is a testament to the prodigious talent of the legendary trumpeter, flugelhornist, and jazz educator Clark Terry. The first of four albums for the Chesky label, Portraits was recorded when the St. Louis-born hornblower, then 68 years old, was a much-venerated jazz elder. By then, he had 35 albums under his belt and boasted a resume that included stellar collaborations with Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Quincy Jones, an...
