Renowned jazz pianist Eddie Higgins stands as one of Japan’s most beloved and iconic jazz artists, celebrated for his rare ability to tell evocative stories through luscious harmony, lyrical touch, and effortless keyboard mastery. Throughout a historic career that included collaborations with legends like Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, and Wayne Shorter, Higgins perfected a warm, elegant style that never overplayed its hand. On Portraits of Love, Higgins is joined by longtime companions Jay Leonhart on bass and Joe Ascione on drums for a deeply personal, moving collection composed entirely of 13 original Higgins works.

 

Recorded on November 6 and 7, 2008, at the legendary Clinton Studio “A” in New York, Portraits of Love stands as Higgins' final masterpiece of original compositions before his passing in 2009. Drawing on memories of love, romance, and the unforgettable places he visited across the globe, the trio crafts a beautiful, intimate narrative filled with gentle rhythms, romantic warmth, and heartfelt emotion—inviting the listener to relax and linger in every frame.

 

Releasing as part of the prestigious VENUS MASTERPIECE LP COLLECTION, this premium limited edition 180g Double Vinyl LP set brings these definitive sessions to a deluxe vinyl format. Produced by legendary sound engineers Tetsuo Hara and Todd Barkan, mixed and mastered using Venus's signature "Hyper Magnum Sound" process, and housed in a stunning gatefold jacket with OBI strip, this strictly limited, one-time pressing will be permanently retired once sold out.
