Grace brings together two powerhouse forces in modern jazz for a special cross-Atlantic collaboration: New York tenor saxophone legend Jerry Weldon and acclaimed Italian pianist Massimo Faraò. A veteran of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and Harry Connick Jr.’s big band, Weldon is widely celebrated as a leading representative of modern soul-jazz, renowned for his robust tone and hard-swinging, classic 1950s acoustic feel. On this session, he pairs seamlessly with Faraò’s passionate, stoic-romantic piano lines and rich harmonic sensibility, backed by the dependable rhythm section of bassist Nicola Barbon and drummer Bobo Facchinetti.

 

Recorded on October 16, 2018, at Riverside Studio in Turin, Italy, Grace captures the Quartet delivering soulful, effortless interpretations across an eclectic set of standards, classic Italian pop melodies, and bluesy originals. Weldon’s warm, soaring tenor solos flow naturally over Faraò’s sophisticated trio arrangements, reviving the classic, hard-swinging spirit of 1950s modern jazz with incredible vitality and emotional depth.
