A master of both the clarinet and tenor saxophone, Ken Peplowski has established a profound legacy, particularly within the Japanese jazz scene. With The Summer Knows, Peplowski did a deeply romantic exploration of the legendary songbook of French composer Michel Legrand and the lyrical duo Marilyn & Alan Bergman. 

 

Recorded on September 21, 2025, at Village Recording in Copenhagen, Denmark, the session features Peplowski alongside an outstanding European trio: pianist Ole Kock Hansen, bassist Hans Backenroth, and drummer Kristian Leth. Peplowski’s playing here is breathtakingly expressive—rooted in the jazz tradition yet refreshingly modern—capturing the melody so eloquently that one can almost hear the lyrics in every note.

 

Now reissued for 2026 as part of the prestigious VENUS MASTERPIECE LP COLLECTION, this limited edition 180g Double Vinyl LP set brings these definitive performances to a deluxe vinyl format. Mixed and mastered by the legendary "sound wizard" Tetsuo Hara, and housed in a stunning gatefold jacket with OBI strip, this release ensures that every nuance of the masterful Copenhagen session is preserved in its entirety without omission.
