Recorded in 1991 for the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, New York Reunion is a thrilling meeting of jazz giants. McCoy Tyner, who rose to fame with the John Coltrane Quartet, is joined by nonpareil tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, the record-breaking double-bass maestro Ron Carter, and jazz drummer extraordinaire, Al Foster. The quartet reveals its extraordinary synergy through a remarkable blend of jazz standards and original compositions. Among the album’s many highlights is Henderson’s bossa nova-infused classic ‘Recorda Me’ and Tyner’s beautiful jazz waltz, ‘Miss Bea,’ a homage to his mother. The group also breathes new life into Cole Porter’s timeless ‘What Is This Thing Called Love.’ The album’s pièce de résistance is an extraordinary revamp of Thelonious Monk’s ‘Ask Me Now,’ which highlights Henderson’s remarkable saxophone genius. The album is reissued on MQA-CD, SACD Hybrid Stereo and 180g One Step Pressing Double Pink Vinyl LP in 2025.
