The stunning Italian tenor saxophonist Sophia Tomelleri makes her highly anticipated Japanese debut with Sweet And Lovely on Venus Records. A rising star and a "new hope" for the Italian jazz scene, Tomelleri gained national recognition after winning the Luciano Zorzella Competition in 2020. Her style is a refreshing return to nostalgic American jazz, characterized by a sensitive, feminine sound and exhilarating improvised solos.

 

Recorded on February 24 and 25, 2023, at Riverside Studio in Torino, Italy, the session captures Tomelleri in perfect harmony with the world-renowned Massimo Faraò Trio. Accompanied by Massimo Faraò on piano, Nicola Barbon on bass, and Alessandro Buzzi on drums, Tomelleri explores a curated selection of jazz standards, including "The Shadow Of Your Smile," "I Want To Be Happy," and "I Couldn't Live Without You." The result is an album that balances lyrical beauty with a sophisticated, modern swing.

 

Releasing in 2026 as part of the prestigious VENUS MASTERPIECE LP COLLECTION, this premium limited edition 180g Double Vinyl LP set brings Tomelleri’s Japanese debut to a deluxe vinyl format. Produced, mixed and mastered by the legendary sound engineer Tetsuo Hara, and housed in a stunning gatefold jacket with OBI strip, this release ensures that every nuance of the session is preserved in its entirety without omission.
